Harewood House 10k

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

On Sunday I ran a 10km ‘fun’ run with a couple of thousand other chumps and a dozen or so of my fellow employees at Epiphany Solutions. The weather was grey and drizzly, which at least meant sunburn was unlikely. My training had been intense military sporadic, but I ran as best I could and finished in a pretty respectable 1:01:09. Here’s a brief precis of my thoughts as the race progressed:

1km: Hmm, that didn’t seem very far. I could be setting a new world record here.

2km: Overtook a Smurf.

3km: Is this the killer hill they’ve all been talking about?

4km: Downhill. Overtaken by people with long legs.

5km: Water station. Too busy to drink. Just keep running.

6km: No, this is the hill everyone was talking about.

7km: Will this hill never end?

8km: One of the marshals shouted “Come on, you’re almost there!”. I nearly cried.

9km: I can’t feel my legs.

10km: Across the line. A personal best on my very first 10k run! Who’d have thought it?

So, it was a good day, and if you’d like to top up the sponsorship fund you can go to http://www.run10ksponsorme.org/chris5marsh and fill in the form!
